GROUP MATWORK

The group classes are ideal for those wishing to enjoy Pilates in a more cost effective way. The Loft has designed classes not only by level but mostly by addressing the different aspects in which the body moves and works. For you convenience, the group classes have been categorized. Let us know if you need help in selecting a class.

Restorative Classes

Mat Pilates O:
A perfect marriage of Pilates and Osteopathy. The integration of Osteopathic principles to your Pilates routine will create optimum strength, flexibility, joint mobilization, positional release and muscle energy for improved well-being. Using different techniques (manually and with props), Jan, an experience Osteopath,  will also address the myofascial system. This class is ideal for everyone looking to improve their ability to move especially those dealing with chronic issues.

Mat Healthy Bones:
This class is ideal to maintaining and building bone density and a proper posture. Each week's exercises based on the Pilates principles and other techniques will introduce movements beneficial to your day-to-day activities and well being. This restorative class is challenging in different ways. Participants will test their ability to build strength and endurance of the larger muscles while keeping the integrity of the smaller muscle groups.

Mat Urban Haven:
Do you feel stressed? Rushed? Overloaded? Come and learn how to take lessons from the mat into your life. In our fast paced, urban environment, it is not only our bodies which need strengthening. Urban Haven is designed to strengthen the fitness of your mind, body and spirit. Come and discover way to de-stress, focus and build awareness which you can use to support you in your everyday life. This class will combine a body workout of Pilates and yoga in addition to dialogue and skill building for conscious living in a urban life.

Mat - Fit Pregnancy:

The Loft Pilates prenatal routine is design to tone your pelvic floor muscles and strengthen your upper back and shoulders. The class is closer to a birth class than a vigorous exercises routine but will empower you in every way by creating support for the many changes to come. Get your body to feel good and ready for your most physically challenging experience of life.
Note: while no previous Pilates experience is required, we highly recommend that you take a private session prior to this class, especially if there are any complications with your pregnancy


Basic Classes

Mat Essentials:
For those new to Pilates, this class is your stepping stone to enjoy the many different classes The Loft has to offer. You will learn how to awaken the muscles of your core system (not just the abs), the one located around your pelvis and waist, and will tone your legs and arms while improving your flexibility. By the end of the term, you will feel stronger and would have developed more body awareness so that you can explore different levels safely.

Mat Pure Core - 1
Pure Core is the next level after essentials. Learn how to both move and stabilize from your center. This class is designed to help beginner participants to challenge their core and build more overall strength before moving to a more challenging level. Develop precision, control and endurance as you still integrate proper core mechanics into all postures.

Mat Core Dynamics - 1
As in life, you core is in constant movement that you are aware of it or not (like in breathing). Core Dynamics 1 is another fun beginner level to improve coordination, movement and strength so that your body can respond with effectively in your day to day life. In this class, you will use unstable surfaces such as the roller, the BOSU, the exercises balls, the weighted balls, the fitness circles to keep your core in constant state of activation. You will discover the different degrees of strength required to achieve mat movements in a dynamic way.  Ideal for those looking to cross train (runners and golfers in particular).


Conditioning Classes

Mat Pure Core - 2 and 3
Pure Core 2 and 3 are challenging levels to build overall body strength.  This class is designed for the intermediate and advance participants who want to challenge their core at every turn.  Improve strength, flexibility and mobility with precision, control and endurance as you still integrate proper core mechanics into all postures. This level will not address injuries.
Note: Previous Pilates experience or Pure Core  1 is a must to attending the intermediate or advance level.

Mat Core Dynamics - 2:

Like in Core Dynamic 1, this fun yet challenging class is to improve your body strength in a dynamic way by using unstable surfaces such as the roller, the BOSU, the exercises balls, the weighted balls and the fitness circles.  Keep your core in constant state of activation like in day-to-day life. Improve your strength, reaction responses and coordination. This class is ideal for those wishing to cross train (runners and golfers in particular). 

Sports Integration - All
It's winter time, the time to take some outdoor activities like biking, running, tennis, and golfing inside.  Cross train during the down season or condition your body for the upcoming seasonal activities. It's time for skiing, snowboarding, skating or playing hockey. This class will bridge Pilates to your favourite physical activity by addressing the proper body biomechanics underlying the many movements necessary to perform any sports.  Come develop a new set of skills.  Work on your entire body not just specific muscles groups.
